Bedding Buying Guide
Bedding is an important home and furnishing article and there are different factors that deserve consideration like durability and comfort level. You get designer bedding items like covers, sets, pillows and cushions that allow supreme comfort while adding a touch of class and sophistication to any bedroom area. You can say, you get what you burn your pocket for, as quality is an important factor for deciding on the value of a bedding collection. The best rule of thumb remains the old cliché, “You get what you pay for”. This buying guide aims to inform you on different aspects of bedding in terms of quality and technicalities that will help you determine the best thing within your budget. Some factors you don’t want to miss on,
Thread-Count: The thread count in a fabric allows you to determine its quality. For sheets, it ranges anywhere between 80 to 12000 TC. A TC ranging between 180-to-500 thread-counts is considered good and often found in most of the stores. However, quality also depends on other technical factors and not just the thread count. So, you should not be surprised to find higher count sheets and lower count sheets to have a similar price tag.
Fabric: High count cotton with satin finish is a popular bedding material. It is important to determine the exact percentage of cotton used in the fabric. Sometimes, you may end up buying labeled sheets with cotton tags but actually use little of cotton percentage and in combination of unnatural or synthetic fiber.
Mattress: One of the most important bedding item, mattresses come in two types—spring mattress and regular foam mattress. While regular high-density foam mattress is good, you get highly advanced mattresses that have layers of high-density foam to provide complete body support. Spring mattresses are relatively expensive and more durable.
Pocket: Carefully measure your mattresses pocket depth. To measure, start from the highest point on the mattress to the bottom edge. Do not forget to include the mattress pad and/or any additional bedding to be used beneath your sheets. Once you have checked the pocket depth of your sheets for adequate thickness of your mattress, it will surely enhance the comfort level of your fitted sheet adding to the bedding.
Fitted sheets: Fitted sheets come with elastic anchor bands at both the corner pockets and around the boundary line of the fitted sheet. This feature is what makes a fitting sheet stay intact no matter what the mattress size. It also allows a uniform feel and smooth sleeping surface for a great night sleep.
Pilling: When any bedding fabric gathers pills or groups of short or broken fibers on its surface resulting in tangling of the fabric due to the tangling resulting in small balls making. the surface uneven. It is one of the most common problem and the following laundering tips can fix up the problem like nothing else,
To avoid and minimize piling,
• While washing in machine, it is advisable to select less shake ups and opt for short wash cycles
• Follow the care instructions and avoid washing with other clothing articles, especially towels etc.
• During machine wash, be sure not to over dry. Remove clothes from the dryer as soon as possible
Cushions and pillows: Cushions and pillows are not just great for comfort, but also add a fresh touch of décor. Any bed would look incomplete without these beauties done with embellishment and embroidery work that enhances the beauty and aesthetics of your bed and room by many folds. The idea is to choose as many complimenting and contrasting colors that go well with your bedroom theme. You could match up with the bed covers, or opt for a neutral cover and do the cushions in great colors, prints, work and embroidery.
